My 80W is supposed to have a working mA max of 24mA, but I hit my 80W at 23.5mA, so I stay at or below the 23.5mA.Ĭutting without good air assist is like driving at night in heavy fog with your high beams on. Don’t run the laser with the lid open, or with the laser compartment or controls compartment open. If you use more power, the tube will degrade very quickly. Be wary, even one or two mA can make a big difference in the life of your tube if you exceed the working mA limit. Most machines reach the maximum recommended tube current (15-18mA for a K40 20,000V 15-18mA 30-36W) at a maximum 40-50 setting. Somewhere there should be a working mA for your laser tube, as opposed to the max mA. If you are too far out you will get a lot of burning / scorching on either side of the cut. If you are any where near your proper focus you should get a 'decent' cut. The difference should be your rough nozzle to work distance. To verify, put a little zip tie CAREFULLY up the nozzle until it touches the lens and mark it. Don't do what I did the first time and lay the piece of plastic flat on the work, it was UGLY. We can confirm that the Laser is receiving instructions to vary the power in a significant and observable way. If the varied output is not readily observable, please share the GCode file. If the engraved results vary and the meter reading didn’t, It’s possible that you’re seeing the meter read peak current instead of average current. When you run the material test, you should see drastically different power output on the meter and ideally, different engraved results. With the $30 setting identical to the S-value max, and the letter V present in the build options for the Monport controller, variable output from LightBurn should be a certainty.
